Worship at St. Anne's

Sunday Mornings: 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist with Choir - a joyful blend of contemporary and traditional.  Click here to read or view sermons.

Outdoor Chapel

In the summer we worship every Sunday -- weather permitting -- in our outdoor chapel. Created in 2007, this lovely worship & meditation space was the realization of a long-deferred dream, brought to reality by the vision and hard work of an Eagle Scout.  Mark Furniss led the fundraising, design of the benches, and construction.  21 benches were given as dedications of thanksgiving or in memory of loved ones.  The benches were dedicated and blessed on St. Anne's Day in July 2007.

Outdoor worship is held every Sunday during the summer, 9:00 AM. There will also be an indoor liturgy every Sunday at 10:30 AM.  In case of inclement weather, the 9:00 service will be indoors.

Baptism & Eucharist (Holy Communion)

Episcopalians recognize 7 sacraments, with Baptism and Communion being the 2 primary ones, necessary for all Christians.  The others are

  • Confirmation - a rite of adult affirmation of faith, done through the laying-on-of-hands of a bishop.

  • Marriage

  • Reconciliation (Confession)

  • Laying on of Hands for Healing

  • Ordination

Eucharistic Visitors

St. Anne's members who are homebound due to prolonged illness or age regularly receive Communion in their homes from the clergy or one of our trained Eucharistic Visitors. At the conclusion of the Sunday worship service, the deacon prepares in-home Communion kits and sends the Eucharistic Visitors out with these words:

Deacon:  I send you forth bearing these gifts for (name of person), that s/he may share with us in this Sacrament of Holy Communion.

People: We who are many are one body, for we all share one bread, one cup.

To request that communion be brought to you or a home-bound member of St. Anne's, please contact the Parish Nurse, Marilyn Garwood, or Lydia or Pat.

Baptism / Confirmation at St. Anne's

baptism at St. Anne's Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the Church.  When you are baptized, you become a member of Christ’s one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church – which is made up of all Christians everywhere.  If you are baptized at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, you are also a member of this particular congregation.

Baptism takes place as part of a St. Anne’s Eucharist.  While infant baptism is often the norm, it is not unusual for older children and adults to be baptized.

The Sacrament of Baptism will be offered this year on the following days:

  • The First Sunday after the Epiphany – January 10, 2010

  • The Easter Vigil – Saturday, April 3, 2010, 7:00 PM

  • Pentecost Sunday – May 23, 2010

  • Saint Anne’s Sunday – July 25, 2009

  • All Saints Sunday - November 7, 2010

  •  Other dates as arranged.

To arrange for the baptism of your baby, toddler, school-aged child, teen, or yourself, please speak to Lydia our priest.

Confirmation
Confirmation is the reaffirmation of baptismal vows and the adult commitment to the Christian life, in the faith of the Episcopal Church.  In confirmation, a bishop lays hands on the candidate and prays for the special gifts of the Holy Spirit.  In the Diocese of Minnesota, it is usual for Confirmation to take place at St. Mark's Cathedral. Regional Confirmation services are held in November and May, on a Saturday morning.

Students must be at least 16 years old, or have special permission from the bishop, to be confirmed.  Adults desiring confirmation do so in order to affiliate fully with the Episcopal Church. Adults who have been confirmed in another church by the laying on of hands of a bishop, may be received into the Episcopal Church by our bishop.

Confirmation classes for teenagers follow a 2-year cycle. Students enroll when they are in 8th grade and follow the 2-year program. They also work with an adult mentor of the congregation.  Adults enroll in a 6-week course of preparation before being presented to the bishop for confirmation or reception.

What to expect when you worship
at St. Anne's

  • We follow a printed liturgy, which is remarkably similar to Roman Catholic and also to Lutheran.  We print most things in the bulletin (worship guide), to make it easier to follow along.

  • We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday.  All people are invited to receive Holy Communion. Those who prefer not to receive are invited to come forward at the time of communion for a blessing. Parents are encouraged to retrieve their children from the nursery and bring them to the altar for communion or a blessing.

  • We follow the Revised Common Lectionary, a schedule of Bible readings that is used by many denominations. Following a 3-year cycle we read most of the 4 gospels, most of the New Testament, and large portions of the Older Testament.

  • We love to sing. It's not unusual for our organist to drop out and let the whole congregation sing a cappella, in 4-part harmony.

  • We are formal yet informal. We sing music ancient and modern in the same worship service. We value beauty and dignity, and also spontaneity.  We honor laughter and tears. We strive to recognize Christ in our midst, wherever 2 or three are gathered together.

  • Children of all ages are encouraged to worship with their families. Children's bulletins and activity bags are provided for use during the service. A professionally staffed nursery is available during the service for the very young and restless, up to age 5.

  • Healing prayers are available every Sunday at the time of communion. You may come for prayers for yourself or for another person.

  • The Lord's Prayer - Periodically throughout the year St. Anne's prays the 20th century translation of the Lord's Prayer. To learn more about why, and about the "original" Lord's Prayer, click here.
