Baptism / Confirmation at St. Anne's Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the Church. When you are baptized, you become a member of Christ’s one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church – which is made up of all Christians everywhere. If you are baptized at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, you are also a member of this particular congregation. Baptism takes place as part of a St. Anne’s Eucharist. While infant baptism is often the norm, it is not unusual for older children and adults to be baptized. The Sacrament of Baptism will be offered this year on the following days:
Preparation for baptism takes place in a group class format, offering participants an opportunity to meet and get to know one another. Typically there is an evening class of about 2 hours, followed by a short class and rehearsal either the day before, or the morning of, the baptism. To arrange for the baptism of your baby, toddler, school-aged child, teen, or yourself, please speak to Lydia our priest. Confirmation Confirmation is the reaffirmation of baptismal vows and the adult commitment to the Christian life, in the faith of the Episcopal Church. In confirmation, a bishop lays hands on the candidate and prays for the special gifts of the Holy Spirit. In the Diocese of Minnesota, it is usual for Confirmation to take place at St. Mark's Cathedral. Regional Confirmation services are held in November and May, on a Saturday morning. Students must be at least 16 years old, or have special permission from the bishop, to be confirmed. Adults desiring confirmation do so in order to affiliate fully with the Episcopal Church. Adults who have been confirmed in another church by the laying on of hands of a bishop, may be received into the Episcopal Church by our bishop. Confirmation classes for teenagers follow a 2-year cycle. Students enroll when they are in 8th grade and follow the 2-year program. They also work with an adult mentor of the congregation. Adults enroll in a 6-week course of preparation before being presented to the bishop for confirmation or reception. |
