Peace and Justice Ministry at St. Anne's Recent visit to Feed My Starving Children Let's Make Poverty History Saint Anne's is committed to joining the Episcopal Church's support of the Millennium Development Goals. We were one of 4 Episcopal congregations in the Diocese of Minnesota to participate in a pilot program, learning how to address the MDGs as a congregation. Our team of 5 laypeople was trained to lead the program, and we held a congregation-wide campaign in Lent, which included education about the MDGs, house meetings, personal narratives, sermons, and an opportunity to pledge. Our goal was to achieve 50% participation - that is, 43 pledges, or 50% of our average Sunday attendance. Children and teens were encouraged to participate, and their pledges counted just as much as an adult pledge. The goal was participation more than dollar amounts. At the conclusion of the campaign, everyone who participated came together to decide how the money raised would be used. 50 pledges were received, totaling about $10,000. The participants had lots of great ideas, and two organizations were selected for the money we had raised. Operation Bootstrap Africa is a Minnesota-based, inter-denominational non-profit dedicated to helping people help themselves through education. Kiva is a micro-lending organization. Our ongoing relationship with Holy Cross Anglican School in Belize will continue to be part of our MDG work. Millennium Development Goals 2008 Campaign Questionnaire Next Outreach/Peace & Justice Meeting - Tuesday July 29, 7:00 PM, at St. Anne's. All are welcome. Mission to Children Angel Tree - Annual toy and clothing drive each November/December Mission to Children Reaches Around the World Mission to Children was started at St. Anne’s over 20 years ago, and continues to make a difference to children around the world. One ministry they recently supported was to help send a pediatric physical therapist and an occupational therapist to an orphanage in China, through Red Thread Charities. These 2 women donated their time, and took with them leg braces and other equipment. In her request for funds from MTC, physical therapist, Kiki Dickinson, wrote: Currently in China most of the children from orphanages have been adopted or quickly are, and those left are children with disabilities which include Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome. Apparently they now have a lot of therapy equipment but do not know how to use it. The organization has people hired that I will be able to train as I assess the children, and that way there will be significant carry over, hopefully. I will also be meeting with Chinese physical therapists and giving at least one talk on the importance of physical therapy. Currently these children are often left in cribs most of the day and the staff needs education on the importance of activity and stretching for these children.
