Outreach at St. Anne's

The Belize Mission
Sixteen adults will travel to Belize January 23-February 1, 2010, for St. Anne's 3rd mission to work and build friendships with the people of Belize.  Our project this year is to help relocate and build a new building for the country's only Maya language radio station, in the Toledo district of Belize.  Click on over to the Belize Mission page for full information and more links.

Saint Anne's is committed to joining the Episcopal Church's support of the Millennium Development Goals
Let's Make Poverty History
We are the first generation to have the means to end extreme global poverty... Pray that we have the will.

OUR MDG PLEDGES ARE SUPPORTING KIVA, OPERATION BOOTSTRAP AFRICA, AND HOLY CROSS ANGLICAN SCHOOL, BELIZE

Through Kiva, St. Anne's is currently providing support to:
Ablossi Djissenou (pictured to left) lives in Togo, is married, and the mother of seven children. She sells medicinal products to support herself and her family. Thus, she stocks up on products when they are abundant and sells them when they are expensive. She requested a US $475 loan from Kiva to improve her earnings and her living standard.

Chim Leang Sim (pictured at right) lives in Cambodia and sells vegetables in the local food market while her husband, Yim Sophat, is a private doctor. She typically makes US $50 each day in revenue, working as a middleman, purchasing vegetables from the growers and reselling them in the market. Her husband makes US $15 per day of income and they have six children who have all married and have started their own families outside the home. She has asked for a loan of US $1000 to allow her to purchase more vegetables to resell in the market. She has seen that there is client demand for the goods, but she lacks the capital needed to expand

Operation Bootstrap Africa
Engaruka Primary School, Engaruka Juu, Tanzania:  St. Anne’s is continuing our support to Engaruka Primary School in Tanzania, East Africa, through Operation Bootstrap Africa (OBA), through our Millennium Development Goals (MDG) campaign.  OBA had been working with this school for several years and has recently funded four new girls dormitories with beds and mattresses and a new latrine and bathhouse as well. OBA has also provided funds for desks and books.  Recently our "Saintly Sewers" made bookbags for the students at OBA. Our Sunday Club students wrote notes to enclose in each bag. The Outreach Committee is also exploring opportunities to providing scholarships to students on behalf of each of the Sunday school classrooms, with the idea that St. Anne’s youth could begin to communicate with the scholarship recipients.

Holy Cross Anglican School
In 2008 and 2009, St. Anne's sent mission teams to help construct buildings and work in the classrooms of Holy Cross Anglican School, in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, Belize.  In addition to our labor and love, St. Anne's gave over $2,500 each year as well as school supplies, clothes, shoes, books and kitchen items.  Read all about our adventures, and see pictures, at the blogs for each year:  2008 Mission Trip    2009 Mission Trip

Ongoing Outreach includes:

Mission to Children Angel Tree - Annual toy and clothing drive for area families
Mission to Children Reaches Around the World
Mission to Children was started at St. Anne’s over 20 years ago, and continues to make a difference to children around the world. One ministry they recently supported was to help send a pediatric physical therapist and an occupational therapist to an orphanage in China, through Red Thread Charities. These 2 women donated their time, and took with them leg braces and other equipment.  In her request for funds from MTC,  physical therapist, Kiki Dickinson, wrote: Currently in China most of the children from orphanages have been adopted or quickly are, and those left are children with disabilities which include Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome. Apparently they now have a lot of therapy equipment but do not know how to use it. The organization has people hired that I will be able to train as I assess the children, and that way there will be significant carry over, hopefully. I will also be meeting with Chinese physical therapists and giving at least one talk on the importance of physical therapy. Currently these children are often left in cribs most of the day and the staff needs education on the importance of activity and stretching for these children.

Neighbors Food Shelf   Hunger knows no season. This is an especially difficult time, and need is up at all foodshelves. Please continue to bring in non-perishable food and personal care items.  Donations are taken each week to our local food shelf at Neighbors, Inc.

2nd Sunday 2nd Offering  On the second Sunday of every month, St. Anne’s collects an offering for needs outside our parish.  Even dimes and quarters can make a difference when we all give.  These offerings go to:  Mano a Mano, Project Home, and Urban Homeworks.

Charity Knitting Group  Learn to knit, and have fun making scarves, hats, baby blankets, and prayer shawls to be given away.  Meets 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 10:00 AM at church.  Open to all.Bear and a Prayer

Intergenerational Projects Throughout the year there will be opportunities for families to work together on mission & outreach projects, and peace & justice issues.  Bear and a Prayer, Lamb's Fleece Blankets, Feed My Starving Children.
